CV New Superintendent Dr. James Murlless

Dr. James Murlless has accepted the position of Interim Superintendent, to finish out the remainder of the 2011-12 school year.

jmurlessThe Governing Board of Chino Valley Unified School District #51 is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. James D. Murlless as Interim Superintendent for the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year. Dr. Murlless was Superintendent in Queen Creek Unified School District from 1998 to 2011. He also served as a superintendent in Moriarty, New Mexico, and Trinidad and Lake City, Colorado. He started his career in education as an elementary school teacher and later as a principal in Globe, Arizona. Dr. Murlless retired from Queen Creek in June of this year after 13 years of service as superintendent of schools.

Upon acceptance of Mr. Duane Noggle’s resignation as Superintendent on August 8, 2011, the Board immediately began a search for an interim superintendent through the auspices of the Arizona School Boards Association. Twenty-two applicants applied for the position and at a special meeting on August 23, 2011, the Board reviewed applications for the position. Four candidates were selected to be interviewed and on August 31, 2011 -Dr. Thomas L. McCraley of Prescott, Arizona, Mr. Kevin Uden of Parker, Arizona and Cathy Egolf of Salem, Indiana were all interviewed by the Board. The Governing Board is appreciative of the candidates who applied and especially those who interviewed for the position. While all candidates brought exceptional qualities to the table, Dr. Murlless rose to the top as the person who could take the District to the next level during this time of transition.

Dr. Murlless did his undergraduate work at Northern Arizona University completing his degree in Elementary Education in 1973. He completed his Master of Arts degree in 1976 and his Doctorate in Educational Administration in 1983, both at Northern Arizona University.

Travis Bard, Board President stated, “we are excited about the appointment of Dr. Murlless. The Board believes the experience he brings to the table on competition and growth will be very helpful in building on the foundation created under Mr. Noggle’s leadership.”

Mr. Noggle resigned his position to accept the position of Executive Director for the Yavapai County Educational Technology Consortium. The Consortium is composed of all school districts in Yavapai County, including Chino Valley Unified School District, ten charter

schools and two colleges. Its mission is to provide broadband connectivity from the state to the Yavapai County Educational Technology Consortium and to its individual participants’ sites, as well as promoting shared educational technology activities among districts, charters, community colleges, universities and library participants.

Mr. Noggle assumes his new position with the Consortium on November 1, 2011. Dr. Murlless will start with the District on September 19, 2011 and will work with Mr. Noggle during the transition process and will assume the full responsibilities of the position upon Mr. Noggle’s exit on October 31, 2011.
