Trough of Low Pressure & Cold Front Coming

21 February 2017   Dr. Curtis James
Enjoy the warm weather now, colder temperatures are on their way.

Forecast Discussion:

The latest storm system produced between 1 and 3” of rain in most of Maricopa and Yavapai County, but the rainfall amounts in the Prescott area were much lighter (0.25”-0.50”). Evidently, the Bradshaw and the Sierra Prieta mountains around Prescott shadowed the precipitation in our area. See the figure below showing rainfall totals.

High pressure will rebuild the next couple of days for warmer than normal temperatures, but another fast-moving trough of low pressure and associated cold front will move through Prescott from west to east on Wednesday Night to Thursday, producing breezy conditions, cooler temperatures and a slight chance of rain or snow showers. Another series of disturbances is expected on Saturday night to early next week, bringing continued breezy to windy conditions and a chance of rain or snow showers through next Tuesday or Wednesday.
