Come Celebrate the Oscars and Explore New Opportunities in Yavapai College’s Film & Media Arts Program

Yavapai College is throwing an Oscar® Party that honors more than the movies’ biggest night. Held Sunday, February 28, at 6 p.m. on the Prescott campus, the party will also celebrate YC’s blossoming Film and Media Arts (FMA) program and the expanded opportunities it now offers, including:

  • Animation – Film and Media Arts has added an Animation certificate to its Production and Screenwriting certificate programs. Available on Yavapai College’s Verde Valley campus this fall, the Animation program will allow students to create and develop their own animated short films. “Animation evokes a sense of wonder and charm, where anything is possible,” says YC instructor Lindsay Bane. “The certificate will center on great storytelling while providing the technology and supportive environment needed to achieve a world of imagination in action.”
  • RED cameras –Yavapai Film and Media Arts students can now train and learn on the same video technology used in Oscar-nominated films like The Martian and The Revenant. FMA has added two new digital RED cameras to its collection of high-quality video and camera equipment. Funded by a generous grant from the J.W. Keicheffer Foundation and Margaret T. Morris Foundation, the RED cameras will give students what instructor Dave Lehleitner calls “hands-on experience with tools that can lead them to work in a broad range of media-related jobs.”

Information on the FMA program will be available at the Oscar party. Co-sponsored by the Prescott Film Festival, this free event will be held in the YC Community Room on the Prescott Campus.

Guests can submit their own Oscar predictions and compete for prizes, including a Platinum Pass to the Prescott Film Festival. Cake, coffee and tea will be served, and YC Film and Media Arts faculty will be on hand to discuss movies, scholarship and the awards. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the awards telecast commencing at 6:30.
