Recent Incidents: Stolen Truck, Inmate Worker Cleanup

05 April 2016
Recent Incidents Overview include Stolen Truck incident and Inmate Worker Clean-up

On March 30, 2016, 53-year-old John Smith (pictured right) was arrested for Theft of Means of Transportation and booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center where he remains in-custody on a $2500 bond.

At approximately 2:45 PM on March 30th, deputies were dispatched to a traffic hazard involving a moving truck on Lakeview Drive in Spring Valley. Although the traffic hazard situation was unfounded, deputies received information that the moving truck may have been reported stolen. A records check of the Indiana license plate verified the truck was reported stolen to the Yavapai Tribal Police Department. Deputies then contacted Smith who had just been seen moving the truck. Smith admitted renting the vehicle back on March 6, 2016, and claimed he had changed the agreement to a day-to-day use. Deputies found the agreement which indicated the truck was due back March 8, 2016, and verified its stolen vehicle status. Smith eventually acknowledged the theft.

The rental company was contacted and recovered the truck from the scene reducing further monetary loss from the inability to rent the vehicle to trustworthy customers.

On March 31, 2016, inmates from the Camp Verde Detention were deployed to a popular shooting area off Iron Springs Road at Contreras Road, Prescott. Inmates spent the day gathering a truck load of trash and other debris leaving the area in pristine condition. Please note the before (left) and after (right) photos. Although YCSO does not mind providing this service through the efforts of our inmate work crew, we continue to encourage users of this land to pick-up their own trash before leaving. Those who follow will be grateful.
