It Was Another 3-2 Victory for the Roughrider Softball Team at the National Tournament

The Roughrider softball team upset the #1 ranked team in the nation, Tyler Junior College Thursday afternoon, 3-2, in the second round of the NJCAA DI National Tournament. YC advances to the next round against Butler Community College.

Tyler JC wasn't able to come back from the hole it dug itself into against the Green and Gold and Tyler lost dropped the close game after falling behind by two runs in the fourth inning.

Jocilyn Ellis racked up two RBIs on two hits for Lady Riders. She homered in the fourth inning and singled in the seventh inning.

Amy Robinson worked out of five difficult moments for the Riders. She pitched seven innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits. Robinson faced her toughest situation in the seventh inning. After the leadoff hitter reached on an error and was sacrificed to second, the next batter hit a screaming ground ball to the hole between third and shortstop. A diving Karissa Pena saved the day by stabbing the ball and throwing the ball to first to get the runner.

Ellis, Pena and Dusty Durham each had two hits for the offense.

Friday’s game will begin at 12:00 PM Utah Time, 11:00 AM Arizona Time. The winner advances to the quarterfinal round against the winner of the Chipola/Salt Lake matchup. If the Roughriders lose, they will play at 2:30 PM against the winner of the San Jacinto/NE Oklahoma A&M game.
