Does your Fido have Dog of the Year potential? He’s good looking, talented and smart? If you think so, be sure to enter your best friend into auditions held at Rafter Eleven, 2985 N. Centre Court in Prescott Valley on Sunday, August 5th, 1pm to 5pm. If your dog is selected to be one of the lucky ten finalists, they’ll be entered into the main event called Classy Canines on Saturday, August 10th, and they might just win prizes and, of course, title of Dog of the Year. The event, Classy Canines, is a fundraiser for Another Journey who creates strategic partnerships connecting at-risk teens and young adults with the tools, resources, and opportunities to be successful in Northern Arizona. The organization’s is raising funds to provide transitional housing for youth aging out of the foster care system. Alisa Cool, Co-Founder of Another Journey says, “This housing will be vital in providing a safe and structured environment promoting accountability, community and productivity.”
While foster care provides stability, what happens when young women and men turn 18 and are thrust out into the challenge of suddenly living on their own? That is where a ministry called Another Journey saw an opportunity to help these girls become a positive, contributing part of our community. “We currently have a safe house and now we are raising funds to help run the home and help these women with mentoring, future ambitions and finding security in their lives,” stated Darlene Fain, Another Journey board member. “We continue to be honored with the overwhelming local support for our organization and the events we are doing are a fun way to raise money for our cause,” Fain continued.
