The Surfaris Celebrate 50 Years of 'Wipeout!'

28 July 2013
Splitting their stage time with the Kingsmen, the Surfaris have a 50-year-old song of their own.

Marking the 50th anniversary of the surf hit "Wipe Out", founding member of the Surfaris Bob Berryhill brought the current version of his band to Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley for a combo show with The Kingsmen, who are also celebrating the 50th anniversary of their garage band classic "Louie Louie".

Berryhill co-wrote the drum and guitar driven favorite with original Surfaris Jim Fuller, Pat Connolly, and Ron Wilson when Berryhill was only 15 years old. The single, originally slated to be a B-side to the groups "Surfer Joe" reached number to on the charts in the fall of 1963. It bounced around in the Top 100 for years to follow, showing up on TV and movie soundtracks to this day.
