Local School Updates

30 April 2018
Prescott Schools will not be open to students on Monday, but that has nothing to do with the statewide walkout known as RedforEd, according to Superintendent Joe Howard.

Howard explained that when the school calendar was approved two years ago, an inservice day was scheduled for Monday, April 30. They are simply continuing to follow the schedule.

Last week, Prescott Schools elected to have a "walk-about" rather than a "walkout". An estimated 500 people joined them on Thursday morning at the Square, and more were on hand Friday afternoon.

"Our local school district is to be commended for working out a compromise," State Representative David Stringer said. Stringer is a member of the House Education Committee, and he explained that he supports the Governor’s plan for a 20% pay raise by 2020 for teachers. It is expected that the details of the proposal will be revealed this week.

Humboldt Unified School District posted on their Facebook page the following message: "Dear Parents and Guardians, Just a reminder that all HUSD schools will be closed on Monday April 30th. We will update communication by 5:00 PM on Monday. Thank you for your continued patience."

Chino Valley Schools will be on a regular school schedule on Monday. Additionally, they have announced that, as of right now, all end of year activities will continue as planned, including awards assemblies, 8th grade recognition and high school graduation. The last day of school is still planned for May 24th.
