Embry-Riddle’s Prescott Campus congratulates its largest graduating class in campus history: 457 graduates — 443 of whom are earning bachelor’s degrees, with 14 completing master’s programs. Included in that cohort are 29 cadets from the Air Force ROTC and 12 cadets from the Army ROTC, each of whom received military commissions.
“I am so impressed by the way this graduating class has handled themselves amid the challenges of navigating through this pandemic,” said Dr. Annette Karlsson, Prescott Campus chancellor. “It is a testament to their dedication, character, professionalism and commitment to excellence. I am so incredibly proud of our graduates and hope to see them at our rescheduled commencement ceremony in October so we can give them the recognition and honor they deserve.”
The Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Graduate went to Tristan Minkoff, an Aerospace Engineering major. Jayla Thirtyacre, a major in the Cyber Intelligence & Security program, won the Ed King Community Service Award.
An in-person commencement ceremony has been rescheduled for Friday, Oct. 2, to take place during the OctoberWest Homecoming event. Spring 2020 graduates who cannot attend the rescheduled event can attend a Worldwide Campus commencement, instead, later in the year. More information can be found online.
Celebration packages prepared and mailed to grads
As graduation season approaches and universities around the world strive to find meaningful ways to honor their graduates in lieu of traditional ceremonies, ERAU honed in on a very personal, tangible solution – a Commencement Celebration Package. Strategically mailed to arrive before the May 2nd Commencement date, the package contained the special items they would have received at graduation. A custom label on the package instructs grads, “Do Not Open Until May 2” so the ERAU graduates can celebrate their special day, at the same time, world-wide.
When the covid-19 pandemic struck, ERAU did not stop the planning to honor its graduates. Amidst online classes and mentoring students, faculty and staff worked diligently to select Outstanding Graduates, review applications for scholarships and compile lists and awards for their hardworking students. Each of these individual items was packaged with additional graduation items to create the Commencement Celebration Package.
Every graduate received a fun, festive package to arrive as close to their graduation date of May 2nd as possible.
Package Contents included:
o Diploma cover with letter from Chancellor
o Special message from University President
o Individual cords, awards, plaques, certificates, sashes earned
o ERAU “gift”
o Alumni letter and pin
o Packaged with festive confetti
Creating Sense of Community via Social Media -- A card inside the Commencement Celebration Package includes a hash tag (#ERAU2020Grad) and encourages students to post photos with their cords, awards, diploma covers on May 2 to share the celebration with their peers. The posts will be captured on the ERAU website at https://prescott.erau.edu/campus-life/graduation for family and friends to enjoy.
