Northern Arizona Regional Training Academy offers open house.

Prescott, AZ (May 14, 2019) – Members of the public are invited to attend an open house of the newly constructed Northern Arizona Regional Training Academy (NARTA) at the Yavapai College Prescott campus (1100 E. Sheldon Street) at Buildings 27 and 29 on Tuesday, May 21 from 4 to 6 p.m.

The law enforcement officer training program moved from the Yavapai College Prescott Valley Center to the Prescott campus in January. The open house includes a tour of the new facilities, including the lecture and offices building, training bay, physical aptitude test course, training demonstrations from staff and recruits, and more.

NARTA offers two, 20-week law enforcement training programs each year to provide recruits from across the state with the knowledge and skills necessary to become successful peace officers. All instructors are AZ POST certified general, proficiency or specialist instructors. Most instructors are active Arizona peace officers from local law enforcement agencies and staff from AZ Attorney General's Office, AZ DPS, Central Yavapai Fire District, Yavapai County Attorney's Office.

In addition to classwork and written assignments, officers are provided training in firearms, driving and pursuit, writing police reports, defensive tactics, and community involvement (past projects include involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Shop With A Cop, and Special Olympics of Arizona).

Upon successful completion of all academic and proficiency skills, graduates are awarded Full-Authority Peace Officer certification and a Law Enforcement and Corrections Certificate from Yavapai College. Graduates earn 24 hours of college credit in YC's Administration of Justice degree program.

The graduation ceremony for the 46th class of recruits will take place at the Yavapai College Performing Arts Center on Thursday, May 23 at 11 a.m.

NARTA has served city, county, tribal, and state law enforcement agencies throughout Arizona since 1996, graduating 1,100 recruits. The NARTA Class Sergeant for Spring 2019 is Sgt. Karl Waak (graduate of NARTA Class 15) of the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, with 15 years of experience as a sworn peace officer.
