Yavapai College Cancels 2014 Softball Season

30 January 2014
The 2009 and 2011 teams won the National Championships.

The Yavapai College administration has made the extremely difficult decision to forfeit its 2014 softball season, which was scheduled to begin Friday, January 31.

The team roster has been reduced to nine players due to a combination of academic ineligibilities, injuries, transfers, family issues and team rule violations. "We do not believe it is right to enter a full season schedule with the minimum number of players, some who are recovering from injuries themselves," Brad Clifford, YC athletic director, said.

Clifford met with the team Wednesday afternoon to announce and explain the decision.

Additional information about this decision will be provided at a Yavapai College news conference on Thursday, January 30, 10 a.m. in the Walraven Gym on the Prescott campus. This, according to Mike Lange, Director, Marketing and Communication for Yavapai College.

Last season, the Roughriders went 36-19 and lost in the first round of the playoffs. Three years ago they won the national championship.
