A Catalina PBY-5 is being shown in detail for the first time ever, after it was sunk by Japanese forces during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

In all, twenty-seven Catalinas, also called, “flying boats” were destroyed and six others were damaged. Hans Van Tilburg, who is a maritime archaeologist with NOAA points out, “The new images and site plan help tell the story of a largely fogotten casualty of the attack.” According to Tilburg, this plane is also a very important reminder of the ‘Day of Infamy.’
