Prescott Area Leadership’s annual youth academy has a limited number of seats available for its 2019 session, which will be held February 15-17 at Camp Chapel Rock.

“For over a decade, we’ve hosted outstanding groups of Quad-Cities high school students for action-packed weekends of fun, team-building and learning,” said Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) committee member, Kim Kapin. “Our mission is to train tomorrow’s leaders, today—and with that, all expenses for food, lodging, and instruction are 100% paid for by Prescott Area Leadership.”

According to Kapin, training programs will be led by local educators, leaders, and professionals. “They will be covering topics like leadership styles, self-understanding, effective communication through public speaking, team building and more.” Kapin stresses that the academy is “active and experiential.”

“YLA students are always on the go, moving from immersive meeting room learning sessions to outdoor team oriented activities which include a rock climbing wall, zip-line, and a host of other challenge course elements. One of the most satisfying outcomes of the academy is seeing how many new friendships are established among the participants.”

Recent YLA alumni include Prescott area Youth Leaders of the Year, Brandon Nguyen (PHS) and Sydney Sundell (BMHS). The pair joins a long list of outstanding YLA alumni that have gone on to attend institutions of higher learning like ASU’s Cronkite School, the Naval Academy, University of San Diego and many others. Participants receive a certificate of completion and a college reference, upon request.

Kapin said the academy has received tremendous support from Quad-Cities high school administrators, teachers and counselors for referrals to the academy, and is hoping for the same this year. “Helping a young person become involved in a program like PAL’s Youth Leadership Academy can make a profound difference in their future and the future of our communities.”
