Motorcycle Driver Crashes into ATV, Ends in Fatality

On April 7th, 2019, at 7:26 PM Yavapai County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area of Bridge Canyon drive in Seligman for a reported fatal collision involving a 100cc motorcycle and a three-wheel ATV.  

Witnesses stated two drivers were racing on the road before the collision and were preparing for another race.   According to one witness, the operator of the motorcycle was traveling southbound at approximately 50 miles per hour when he collided with the driver of the ATV.   Neither vehicle had headlamps or stop lamps/signal lamps.   46-year old John Johnson of Seligman, the operator of the motorcycle, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.  29-year old Zachary Height, the operator of the ATV, was transported to the Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.  Neither Johnson nor Height was wearing a helmet or eye protection.  Alcohol consumption is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision.  

The cause of the collision is yet to be determined and is currently under investigation by the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.
