On February 10, 2020, 2 brothers from Paulden, ages 15 and 16, were arrested and booked into the Yavapai County Juvenile Detention Center for 2 Paulden area burglaries. The suspects also stole their father’s truck which was used in each incident. They were also charged with Vehicle Theft.
The first investigation involved a home in the 24000 block of Prairie Way, Paulden. The victim told deputies she was awakened at 2:30 AM on February 10, 2020, by an alert on her phone indicating a security video activation. Her armed husband searched the premises for suspects, but none were found. The security videos showed 2 suspects attempting to enter the garage adjacent to their home – see included screen shot. During a check of the garage area, the couple found the door to the garage unsecure and property missing. They posted portions of the security video on a community Facebook page and several people identified the suspects as brothers by name. One person indicated the brothers had bragged about a stealing stereo equipment during a recent burglary.
Deputies learned the brothers attend Chino Valley High School and contacted administrators that same morning who, after seeing the video, identified the brothers by name. With their parents present, both suspects were interviewed at Chino Valley High School and eventually admitted to the garage burglary including the theft of their dad’s truck that night. Deputies returned to the home of the suspects and recovered the stolen stereo which had been stashed in a bush. Additional stolen items, including knives and jewelry, were also recovered from the home.
During this investigation, another deputy was assigned a burglary incident occurring in the 22000 block of Stump Road, Paulden. A neighbor, who was watching the unoccupied property for the homeowner, noticed a broken window and found the house ransacked and a TV missing. It was unknown when the actual burglary or burglaries occurred. While the deputy was working on his report at a YCSO substation, he spoke to the deputy handling the Prairie Way burglary. Because these burglaries were within 2 blocks of each other, the deputy decided to interview the 2 suspect brothers already in custody. Both eventually admitted burglarizing this home the same morning and stealing a TV and jewelry. As a result, they were charged with an additional burglary.
Deputies returned to the home of the suspects and recovered a stolen 47-inch TV that was hidden in a closet. The jewelry has not been located.
