MANHEIM, Pa. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association anncounced their 2019-2020 Scholar All-American Team and Individual honorees, Friday afternoon and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) men's wrestling were garnered as the team champions.
"This is a great honor for us as a program," head coach KC Rock exclaimed. "We have been up there and close a few times so I'm super proud of our guys and the effort they put into their academics."
The team had a strong showing in the classroom and posted a strong team GPA of 3.397. ERAU's closest competitor was Cascade Collegiate Conference foe, Montana-State University Northern who held a 3.368 team GPA.
Four individuals on the squad received Scholar-All American nods as well. Taylor Owens (SR/Boise, Idaho) who finished his career as an All-American at 165 lbs. is the first Eagle mentioned in the list. Following Owens, is two-time All-American at 174 lbs. and CCC individual champion, Daniel Butler (SO/Leavenworth, Kan.). Next, TJ Hall (JR/Meridian, Idaho) a national qualifier in 2020 and 2019 All-American at 184 lbs. was honored. Finally, standout Oliver Myers (FR/Yamhill, Ore.) who qualified for the national tournament at 184 lbs. received the award.
"This really reflects on the types of men we bring on campus to be part of the Eagle family," Rock continued. "The cool thing about this award is that all the credit goes out to the guys in the program and really reflect their hard work."
