Hundreds Attend Wade Parker Memorial Baseball Game in Chino Valley

28 June 2014
CHINO VALLEY, AZ- Another fantastic turnout at Chino Valley High School today as hundreds attended the 2nd Annual Wade Parker Memorial Baseball Game.

Wade, a CVHS 2009 grad, was one of 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots that died in last year’s Yarnell Hill Fire.

A stand out multi sport athlete, Wade's former teammates &  friends gathered together last July 5th, just a few short days following the Yarnell Hill tragedy, and played a 19 inning game on the very field that Wade called home.

Leaving Wades position of shortstop manned only by his cap, dozens of former teammates, cross town rivals, friends, and family, took the field to honor their fallen friend.

This year’s game, again organized by former CVHS Cougar’s Dylan Tucker and Jerry Garcia, gives the community another way to honor Parker. All proceeds from admission donations, raffles prizes, auction items, and food sales will go directly to the Wade Parker Memorial Scholarship Fund, created by the Chino Valley Firefighters Foundation.

Wades father Danny, recently retired from his position as captain with the CVFD, will again be one of those taking the field. Aside from hunting and working side by side in their workshop, both Danny and Wade bonded over their mutual love of baseball.

Opening ceremonies for the game, emceed by former CVHS coach Bill McKnight, included the National Anthem performed by Chino Valley resident and Fox TV’s X-Factor star Drew Ryniewicz

Total dollars collected are still being tallied, but as of first pitch at 10 a.m. Saturday June 28, 2014, local business Fann Contracting had led the fund by donating $9,400 collected from their employees.

Also contributing in either money, prizes, or supplies were, among others, Tom’s Print Shop, ACE Hardware, Yavapai Title, Ceasar Del Prato, TDK Comfort Systems, Safeway, Kash Trading/Gifts 4 Her, Liquor Barn, Chino Rentals, M. Santos Photographer, Custom Towing, Valley Pump, Interior Logic, KQNA Radio, Prescott Animal Hospital & Equine Center, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, The Phoenician Luxury Resort, The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, The Sheraton Phoenix Downtown, Talking Rock Golf Club, Antelope Hills Golf Course, Stone ridge Golf Course, and the Law Firm of Curry, Pearson & Wooten.
