Deceased Suspect Shot by YCSO Officer Identified

30 December 2014
The suspect in yesterday’s shooting is identified as Daniel Gray, 51, a resident at the incident location on Oxbow Drive.

When the uniformed deputies arrived at the front door of Gray’s home yesterday, Gray was armed with a handgun. Deputies tried to convince Gray to surrender the handgun. Gray refused and when he threatened the deputies with the firearm, one of the deputies fired in self-defense striking the suspect. The suspect’s handgun was recovered.

It has been determined Gray did not fire any rounds. Family members told detectives Gray had been extremely despondent over relationship issues and mentioned committing suicide in recent days.

The DPS Officer Involved Shooting Team, will be handling the investigation and any further details will only be available once their inquiry is complete.
