It Promises to be an Epic Weekend in Prescott

29 April 2016
It’s the day that the Whiskey Off-Road starts, and with 1700+ riders participating, it promises to be a grand time for all.

The Bike & Gear Expo is open, Amateur Packets are ready to be picked up. The Whiskey Off-Road is underway.

The 15 Proof Fun Ride starts at 3 today, followed by the Pro Women Fat Tire Crit that starts at 5:15. The Pro Men’s Fat Tire Crit will take place at 6:15. It’s a fast and wild event, a lot of fun to watch, and the riders are so close you could almost touch them.

Beer gardens will be open and live music will be playing.

Saturday morning at 7:30 the 50 Proof Backcountry ride gets underway. The 30 Proof Backcountry ride will start at 9:30.

While all that is happening, the Bike & Gear Expo opens with “deals galore” according to the Epic Rides website. Music strikes up at 10 AM, and this year you’ll get a choice of two stages.

On Sunday, the Pro Men get underway at 8:30 and the Pro Women follow at 8:40. The kids will get their ride starting at 9 AM. Get your cameras ready.

And there’s more music starting at 10 AM.

The beer garden opens at 11 AM, and the Pro Awards take place at 1:30 on the Gurley Street stage.

A lot of changes are planned this year, so you’ll want to check out the website, download the maps and look at the schedule.

One of the biggest changes is that the course routes have changed. Can you say, “Senator Highway” and “Feldmeir Descent”? Riders will have choices to make, but in the end all roads lead to home.

During a kick-off event Thursday night at Springhill Suites, we had a chance to sit down with Todd Sadow, President of Epic Rides. He talks about the Men’s and Ladies equal prize purses, the route, and most of all, the joy of mountain bike riding.
