It’s a ham radio extravaganza!

Prescott, Arizona – Eagle Amateur Radio Club of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and the Yavapai Amateur Radio Club (YARC) invites everyone to Prescott Hamfest at Embry Riddle (ERAU) Prescott, AZ, on June 10 and June 11, 2016.

According to Don Bauer, Public Information Officer for the YARC, "Due in part to the growing uncertainty of governments, power grids etc. amateur "ham" radio has been experiencing accelerated growth in recent years. The Yavapai ARC has grown by more than 30% in the past five years to over 220 members. Ham radio licenses nationwide have grown from an average of 300,000 ten years ago to over 800,000 currently. We conduct free licensing classes and testing for FCC amateur radio licenses as a service to the community."

If you are a ham radio operator or just want to learn what it is all about, come to Embry-Riddle Friday afternoon, June 10, and all day Saturday, June 11, 2016. The Eagle Amateur Radio Club and the Yavapai Amateur Radio Club (YARC) are hosting this event. Admission is $5.00 per person and free for students of all ages. This is an American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and Amateur Radio Council of Arizona (ARCA) approved and coordinated event and this hamfest happens to occur in the 25th anniversary year of the Yavapai Amateur Radio Club.

At hamfests, amateur radio operators gather to refresh long-held radio friendships; to examine amateur radio gear in-person; to buy or sell equipment and parts; to exchange information; and compete in various technical and skill competition. Hamfests also provide a learning environment for anyone interested to come see what amateur radio , also known as “ham” radio, is about.

At the Prescott Hamfest, the program will feature seminars for beginner, intermediate and advanced amateur radio operators as well as those who just want to learn about ham radio.
