“…it was simply a tragic situation where the child didn’t look before entering the road,” Lt. Vince Schaan said.

On November 11, 2016 at approx. 6:36 pm Chino Valley Police responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on State Route 89 at Mile Marker 333.2. The collision tragically resulted in the death of an 11 year old Ash Fork child.

The matter is still under investigation; however no impairment, criminal action or conduct is believed to be involved. The complete collision investigation, which only involved 1 vehicle and a pedestrian, should be completed in the near future but due to the nature and sensitivity of this incident and for compassion to all those affected, no further details will be released.

State Route 89 from Road 5 North to Old Hwy 89 was closed from 6:36 pm to 10:33 pm when the scene investigation was complete. The roadway was reopened for traffic in both directions. We appreciate the cooperation of all motorists and understanding during this investigation.

The Chino Valley Police Department would like to thank the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Public Safety, Department of Transportation and the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority for all their help and assistance with this incident.
