Yavapai College to Host 2017 NJCAA National Soccer Tournament

The National Soccer Tournament takes place in November.

Prescott, AZ (June 15, 2017) – Tickets are now on sale for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Men’s National Soccer Tournament, Nov. 12-18, 2017. Tournament passes are only $30 prior to October 18, and are available online at soccer2017.yc.edu/tickets

Hosted this year by Yavapai College, the 12-team tournament will feature group play at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley on Monday, Nov. 13 through Wednesday, Nov. 15. National semifinals will take place on Friday, Nov. 17 with the national championship game scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 18.  

“We are honored and excited to be chosen again to host,” said Yavapai College Athletic Director Brad Clifford. “It’s a chance to see the best 12 teams in the nation compete for a national title in person.” 

Since the program’s inception in 1989, Yavapai College has qualified for 20 national tournaments, finished in the final four 18 times and has made 13 appearances in the national championship games—all marks are the most of any soccer program in the country. The Roughriders are 588-52-27 all-time, capturing 72 conference, region, district and national titles, including seven national championships. Michael Pantalione—who was inducted in the Arizona Community College Athletics Conference (ACCAC) Hall of Fame in 2016—has been the head coach for all Yavapai College matches. 

All matches will be played at Mountain Valley Park. The tentative schedule of matches is as follows: 

  •  Sunday, Nov. 12 – Banquet of Champions

  •  Monday, Nov. 13 – Pool Play (4 games: 9:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.)

  •  Tuesday, Nov. 14 – Pool Play (4 games: 9:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.)

  •  Wednesday, Nov. 15 - Pool Play (4 games: 9:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.)

  •  Thursday, Nov. 16 – Day off

  •  Friday, Nov. 17 – Semi-Finals (2 games: 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.)

  •  Saturday, Nov. 18 – Finals (1 game: 3 p.m.)
