Roughrider Playoffs Start Tonight Against Phoenix College

Reece Weldon was named to the 2015 NJCAA All-Region Team.
The Roughriders will face Phoenix College in the NJCAA Region I Playoffs at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley. 

The Roughrider soccer team will face Phoenix College on Wednesday in the NJCAA Region I Playoffs. Phoenix College beat Chandler-Gilbert Community College, 3-0 Monday night to advance to the next round.

In the meantime, four Yavapai College soccer players were named to the 2015 NJCAA All-Region Team.  Defender Niall Logue and forward Reece Weldon were selected to the first team while midfielders Guillermo Diaz and Hugo Gutierrez were announced to the second team.  Logue anchored the Roughrider defense that recorded ten shutouts en route to a 19-2-1 overall record.  Weldon led the region in goals scored (25) assists (13) and points (63).  Diaz recorded 10 goals and 6 assists from his wing position while Gutierrez had 8 goals and 4 assists from his defensive midfield position.  All four players are sophomores that led Yavapai in capturing their 25th Arizona Conference Championship.   Since the program’s inception in 1989, 128 Yavapai players have been selected to the all-region team.  In addition, Yavapai College Head Coach Michael Pantalione (574-49-27, 27 years) was named Region Coach of the Year for the 17th time.

Wednesday’s match will be played at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley beginning at 6:00 PM. The winner will advance to the Region Championship Match at the site of the highest remaining seed.
