The Roughriders Baseball team had a busy weekend. Here are the game recaps.

Friday’s Game

In a rare Friday afternoon single game, the Roughrider baseball team dropped an extra inning affair at Scottsdale Community College, 9-7. YC falls to 23-11 on the season and 10-4 in conference play. Scottsdale is now 22-12 overall and 12-7 ACCAC action.

A twelfth-inning Scottsdale two-run home run spelled defeat for YC, falling 9-7 in walk-off fashion.

The Roughriders were led by Ramsey Romano's hitting. Romano went 4-6 and scored three runs. He singled in the second, fourth, seventh, and eleventh innings.

Hayden Durkiewicz was a workhorse on the bump for the Green and Gold.

Durkiewicz pitched seven innings and allowed one earned run, four hits and one walk while striking out five.

In the top of the second, Yavapai  grabbed the early lead, 3-0. The  Roughrider attack began with a single from Romano. A groundout by Jonathan Villa then moved Brock Ephan from second to third. Jaxxon Fagg doubled, bringing home Romano and Ephan. YC added more runs when Fagg scored on an RBI double by Dylan Enwiller.

Scottsdale pushed across one run in both the second inning and the seventh. The Artichokes answered with one run of its own in the seventh.

A victory looked eminent  in the top of the eleventh as the Roughriders plated three runs. Gavin Johns led the inning off with a single. Romano singled and Villa walked to load the bases for Jeddediah Fagg who delivered a two-run single. Villa advanced to third. Turtle Kuhaulua singled home Villa for the innings third run. Unfortunately, YC surrendered three runs in the bottom of the frame to and it into the 12th inning.

Saturday’s Game

After falling in 12 innings Friday afternoon to Scottsdale Community College, the Roughrider baseball team responded with a come-from-behind victory over the Artichokes Saturday afternoon, 9-8. YC improves to 11-5 in the ACCAC standings and 24-11 on the year. Scottsdale falls to 12-8 on conference action and 22-13 overall.

With the score tied at eight in the eighth inning, Jeddediah Fagg came to the plate and singled, plating Brock Ephan for the game winner.

It was a good day at the plate for Fagg going 2-5 and driving in one.

Offense was not hard to come by on Saturday, as both teams combined for 17 runs and 27 hits, including 10 extra base hits. There were six pitchers used in the game as the two managers searched for any way to finish it off.

The bottom of the first saw YC take an early lead, 1-0. Nate Easley got things going with a single. A single by Gavin Johns then moved Easley from first to second. Jaxxon Fagg singled, scoring Easley.

The Green and Gold answered Scottsdale's top inning with two runs of its own in the third scoring on a two-run error.

Scottsdale pushed across two runs in both the sixth inning and the seventh.

The Roughriders survived the Artichokes's surge and put up four runs of its own in the seventh. Yavapai scored on a passed ball, an RBI single by Ephan, and a two-run error.

The eighth spelled defeat for Scottsdale, as YC grabbed the lead for good.

The Roughriders return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 29th as they entertain Chandler-Gilbert Community College. The twinbill begins at 12:00 PM.
