The #17 ranked Roughrider baseball team came up with a huge doubleheader sweep Tuesday afternoon at Roughrider Park over the #8 ranked Central Arizona College, 9-2 and 10-7. With the victories, YC moves into a tie with the Vaqueros for first place in the ACCAC. Yavapai holds the advantage as they have beat Central Arizona three games out of four this season. YC is now 22-8 in conference play and 35-15 on the year. Central Arizona falls to 22-8 in the ACCAC standings and 40-10 overall.
In the opener, YC broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning. The Roughriders scored in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Nate Easley, an RBI single by Christian Maggi, a two-run double by Ramsey Romano, and an RBI double by Brock Ephan.
Ephan racked up four RBIs on three hits for the home team.
Yavapai relied on Chase Beal to eat up innings en route to the win. Beal allowed two earned runs, seven hits and three walks while striking out four over seven innings of work.
The Riders jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Easley singled to ignite the offense. A single by Romano then moved Easley from first to second. Ephan singled, bringing home Easley and Romano.
The Roughriders didn't relinquish the lead after scoring one run in the fourth inning when it scored on a solo home run by Ryan Oberg.
In the nightcap, both teams volleyed the lead seven times, but the Green and Gold came out on top for a 10-7 win.
YC pulled out the win thanks to a strong sixth inning. A passed ball scored Rashaan Kuhaulua to give the Roughriders the lead for good.
Christian Maggi racked up two RBIs on three hits.
Joseph Romero got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He tossed 1 2/3 innings of shutout ball. He struck out two, walked one and surrendered one hit.
The top of the first saw CAC take an early lead, 3-0.
The Vaqueros pushed one run across in each of the third, fifth and sixth. In the third, Central scored on a sacrifice fly.
After a quick strike from Central Arizona , YC responded with two runs in the third scoring on an RBI double by Maggi and an error.
YC scored four runs in the fourth inning, and then followed it up with four more in the sixth. In the fourth, Yavapai on an RBI triple by Dylan Enwiller, plating Nikko Delgado.
The home team never surrendered the lead after the sixth inning. The runs piled on thanks to a two-run home run by Brock Ephan and an RBI single by Kuhaulua.
Yavapai concludes the 2016 regular season on the road with 3 consecutive doubleheaders away from Roughrider Park beginning Saturday at Cochise College. Yavapai split a doubleheader with the Apaches in February dropping the opener, 7-0 and taking the second game, 12-3.
