Tough Day on the Diamond for the Roughriders

The Roughrider Baseball team drop two in Douglas. 

The Roughrider baseball dropped a road doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the hands of Cochise College in Douglas, 7-3 and 7-3. YC falls to 35-17 on the year and 22-10 in the ACCAC. Yavapai remains in first place in the ACCAC with a doubleheader loss by Central Arizona College to South Mountain CC. Cochise improves to 33-19 overall and 20-12 in the conference.

In the opener, Caden Goldby drove in three runs, but YC still fell to Cochise College 7-3 in seven innings on Saturday.

The game was never in doubt after the fourth, as the Apaches scored one run on an error.

Cochise scored three runs in the fifth inning, and then followed it up with three more in the sixth.

Three runs in the top of the seventh helped the Roughriders close its deficit to 7-3. A three-run home run by Goldby set off the Rider rally. 

In the second game, YC gave way to a Cochise College walk-off home run in the tenth inning, dropping a heartbreaker, 7-3, Saturday.

Christian Maggi was hot from the plate for the Green and Gold. Maggi went 2 for 3 and scored one run. He singled in the first and seventh innings.

Andrew Gross worked out of four tough situations for. He pitched three innings and allowed no earned runs on one hit. Gross faced his toughest moment in the eighth inning. 

The top of the second saw Yavapai College take an early lead, 2-0. The Riders threat began with a single by Nikko Delgado. A stolen base then moved Delgado from first to second. Dylan Enwiller singled, scoring Delgado. YC pushed more runs across when Enwiller scored.

Yavapai stays on the road for their next doubleheader as they travel to Yuma to face Arizona Western College. On March 5th, Yavapai swept the Matadors, 9-0 and 14-8. Tuesday’s twinbill begins at 12:00 PM.
