The crafty lefthander still managed to lead Yavapai College Baseball to a 6-2 win over the Cowley College Tigers on Tuesday at Suplizio Field in Grand Junction.
Weems had an impressive outing against the Tigers' lineup, they managed just two hits off of Weems, who allowed no earned runs, walked four and struck out six during his seven innings of work.
Nikko Ortego threw the final two innings allowing 1 hit and striking out 3.
Brock Ephan and Dylan Enwiller paced Yavapai at the plate. Ephan went 3 for 4 and drove in one. He singled in the first, third, and seventh innings. Enwiller was 3 for 4 with a run scored and one RBI. Dylan singled in the first, third and eighth innings.
The game's last lead went to the Roughriders thanks to a first inning rally that saw two runs cross the plate on an RBI double by Nate Easley and an RBI single by Ephan.
YC piled on two more runs in the bottom of the third. A sacrifice fly scored Ramsey Romano for the inning's first run. That was followed up by Dylan Enwiller's single, chasing home Christian Maggi.
The Green and Gold got one-run rallies in the fifth inning and the eighth. In the fifth, YC scored on a solo home run by Gavin Johns.
After pushing across two runs in the top of the seventh, Cowley faced just a 5-2 deficit. The Cowley threat came to an end when Weems finally got a fly out to end the inning.
Yavapai next plays on Wednesday afternoon against the loser of the Cisco/San Jacinto game that will be played later Tuesday evening.
