Cougars Girl's Soccer Score Eleven Goals, Nine in The First Half, to Beat Payson High School

CHINO VALLEY- Chino Valley High School girl’s soccer head coach Allen Foster implemented new formations before the game against the Payson High School Longhorns on Tuesday, September 19th, following a. 4-3-1 start and the team responded with an 11-0 win.

“We just implemented new formations to try to come up with something different to beat these teams,” Foster said. “It looked good today.”

The Cougars scored nine goals in the first half as freshman Jessica Krough scored three goals, while Julz Elsea and Yeni Gomez each knocked in two goals. Juniors Serena Reed and Coury Hawks also added a goal each for the 9-0 halftime advantage.

Senior Allie Nichols scored two goals in the second half as the Cougars ran away with the victory.

“Our teammates were really good passing to each other,” Krough said. “We communicated well, we played together as a team well.”

Considering the impressive early scoring, it allowed Foster to implement some of the younger players into game action.

“It was a great opportunity to get some of our younger girls in, get them some playing time,” Foster said. “Just trying to learn from things out there, try to feed the ball to certain individuals who need some opportunities. It was a good learning experience for us.”

The Cougars (5-3-1, 1-1 section) hit the road to face Page High School on Thursday, September 21st at 3:00 pm.
