Cougars Score Five Goals In Route to Shutout Win Over Round Valley

CHINO VALLEY- The Chino Valley Cougars men’s soccer team remained undefeated on the season with a 5-0 win over Round Valley at home, Wednesday, September 20th.

Ty Richmond and Irving Vedolla began the scoring in the first half for a 2-0 Cougars lead at the break. Chino Valley found their groove in the second half as Vedolla added another goal along with scores from Matthew Rios-Jakeway and Elijah Desmond.

“I think we played really good that second half, we passed better than the first half,” Vedolla said. “We were kind of sloppy in the first half.”

Despite the final result, Cougars head coach Todd Carey was impressed with the defense from Round Valley, mentioning the team played smart and effectively stifled Chino Valley’s speed game.

“We weren’t able to really use our speed, they had a lot of guys back,” Carey said. “We were still able to pass around and get the ball outside and cross a lot.”

Round Valley stacked the box throughout the game, which caused Chino Valley to go after long shoots.

“We settled a little bit too much for the long shots,” Carey said. “I want to try to get the ball in the box as much as I can. I understand today, there were nine guys in the box for Round Valley, but it’s still good practice for us. We got to make better on our short passes, get in the box and get more quality shots.”

Chino Valley (8-0, 1-0 2A) remains at home for a matchup against Page on Thursday, September 21st, at 2 pm.
