FEBRUARY 1, 2014
Prescott Valley, AZ – The Arizona Sundogs will be hosting their Pink in the Rink game on February 1, 2014, at Tim’s Toyota Center. This game is being co-sponsored by the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation and the American Cancer Society. Pink in the Rink hopes to increase public awareness about early detection for breast cancer. 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. However, with early detection the odds of survival are very good.
To promote breast cancer awareness, the team will play on ice decorated with the names of those that continue to fight their battle and those that have succumb to their battles. The team will also wear pink jerseys and pink skate laces. The Sundogs Dance Team will sport pink poms during their weekly dance performance.
Everyone attending the game will receive a pink ribbon from Zeta Tau Alpha to wear during the game. Information about breast cancer will also be made available. In addition, to raising awareness about breast cancer, the event will also honor all survivors of cancer—any cancer. Survivors attending the game may stop at the American Cancer Society booth and receive a free t-shirt, while supplies last.
Furthermore, SimonMed, a corporate partner with the Arizona Sundogs, will distribute pink bracelets to the first 1,000 people. And, the Sojourn Cancer Bears will give away free handmade Teddy Bears to survivors, while bears last. Sojourn Cancer Bears is a national program in which handmade bears are given free of charge to cancer survivors as a gift of love. These bears were made locally in the Verde Valley by volunteers.
To further add to the atmosphere, this year’s Arty Bras will be on display. Arty Bras is a competition sponsored each year by Northern AZ Healthcare to promote the awareness of the need for early detection of breast cancer. Local artists compete to decorate bras and are creations not to be missed.
On January 30, 2014, from 1:00pm-8:00pm fans will have a very special opportunity to write the names of their loved ones and friends who have battled cancer, on the ice as a special dedication.
At the conclusion of the game, these unique, pink jerseys will be auctioned off to the fans. In addition, fans will have the chance to purchase tickets for a 50/50 raffle. All of the proceeds from these fundraisers will be divided evenly between the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation and the American Cancer Society.
