PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. – Forward Johnny O’Bryant will play in the NBA D-League All-Star Game, presented by Kumho Tire, on Saturday, Feb. 18, in New Orleans.
The event is set for 12:30 p.m. MT at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome that will be televised on NBA TV.
The 2017 NBA D-League All-Stars were selected by a combined vote of the league’s 22 head coaches and all players in the league on Jan. 29. O’Bryant was one of the original 12 players named to the NBA D-League Western Conference All-Star team, joining Sioux Falls’ Keith Benson, Briante Weber and Okaro White, Los Angeles’ Vander Blue, Justin Harper and Josh Magette, Santa Cruz’s Dennis Clifford, Texas’ Pierre Jackson, Austin’s Cory Jefferson, Oklahoma City’s Dakari Johnson and Iowa’s JaKarr Sampson. Oklahoma City’s Reggie Williams and Salt Lake City’s Joel Bolomboy have since been named replacement players on the Western Conference All-Star team for injured Jackson and Sampson.
O’Bryant will become the first Suns player in team history to play in the NBA D-League All-Star Game.
O’Bryant re-joins the Suns after most recently serving two 10-day contracts for the Denver Nuggets. He played in seven games for the Nuggets, where he averaged 2.9 points on 46.7 percent shooting and 1.6 rebounds in 6.6 minutes.
Both his best games came against the two teams who played in the NBA Finals last year. O’Bryant tallied six points and two rebounds in 11 minutes at the Cleveland Cavaliers, and recorded five points and three rebounds in 12 minutes vs. the Golden State Warriors.
He was called up from the Suns on Jan. 26 and signed a 10-day contract with Denver before signing his second 10-day deal on Feb. 6. His contract expired on Thursday.
The 6-foot 9-inch, 257-pound Louisiana State product was the first GATORADE Call-Up in Suns history.
O’Bryant has played in 24 games (all starts) with the Suns this season and posted averages of 18.4 points on 46.0 percent shooting and 8.6 rebounds in 32.2 minutes per game. He also achieved 10 double-doubles for NAZ.
He was named the NBA D-League Performer of the Week for games played Jan. 9-15, when he averaged 24.0 points, 17.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 0.5 blocks per game that week. The Suns’ forward was also named a NBA D-League Showcase Honorable Mention for his performance in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
